Ride in a DC-3 at Museum Open House in Dallas!

The Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas will be hosting a FREE open house to the Public this Saturday. The museum which is located at 6911 Lemmon Avenue in Dallas, will open its doors free of charge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.Saturday. You will need tickets to get in but you can download the free tickets here.

Museum Day Live! is an annual event sponsored by Smithsonian magazine in Washington, D.C., in which participating museums nationwide offer free admission for two people.

Also on Saturday, the Frontiers of Flight Museum also will celebrate a number of other events, most notable being “Girls in Aviation Day” and displaying the restored Flagship Detroit DC-3 plane from American Airlines.

Here is the rundown of what is happening on Saturday:

A DC-3 Adventure!

American Airlines has restored a Douglas DC-3 which will be on display and offering tours of the inside. If that wasn’t enough they will also be offering rides in the plane, rides will be available at 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. by buying a $150 membership from the Foundation on site, a totally worthy cause!

Women in Aviation!

Women in Aviation International group will be teaming up with the local museum to attract more young women to aviation and the aerospace field. There will be a large-scale model of Amelia Earhart’s Lockheed Model 10 Electra plane at 11 a.m. There will also be presentations by a Living History Amelia Earhart performer at 1:30 p.m. and a discussion at 1:30 p.m. about career opportunities for women in aviation. If you know a Girl Scout, she can earn a STEM [science, technology, engineering and math] patch by attending this!

AV Geeks Unite!

There will be an Aviation Swap Meet for Aviation enthusiasts. Here they can find the perfect aircraft models, books on planes and historical aviation memorabilia.

If that just wasn’t enough there will also be a number of additional aircraft and even some flight simulators open to the public!
